About Me

Katie Mauro, LCSW, (she/they) is a non-binary, fat, queer, white therapist who has spent the past six years working in various levels of mental health care in Philadelphia, Lebanon, Lancaster, and Reading.  They specialize in fat and body liberation, self-esteem, anti-diet/intuitive eating, depression and anxiety, and borderline personality disorder while working from a social justice and advocacy perspective.  Katie is passionate about teaching clients the importance of boundary setting, being more assertive, and respectfully demanding their needs be met thoughtfully and completely.

Katie always dreamed of working in an inclusive space for individuals and groups to explore, unpack, and step into their authentic self, free from judgment.  When they did not find a place she felt met these requirements, Katie decided to create their own practice, and Redefine Therapy, LLC was born.  Implementing a therapeutic approach that is equal parts bold and gentle, Katie uses Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Change Therapy (ACT) to help clients understand their true value, so they can fully realize their potential internally as well as in their personal and professional relationships.

Katie created Redefine Therapy, LLC to be a welcoming space for people of all genders and backgrounds.  Hatred and bigotry have no place in their practice, and they have built their work as a therapist around tenets of anti-racism, intersectional feminism, and accessibility.  Instead, it is a place for BIPOC, LGBTQ+ individuals, former and current sex workers, fat folx, and other marginalized people to safely explore their needs and learn to navigate the world as their authentic selves.  At the core of Katie’s approach to therapy is a desire to provide empathy, understanding, and no-nonsense support to her clients.

Katie received her Bachelor’s in Social Work from Temple University, and graduated from Widener University with a Master’s Degree in Social Work.  She is dedicated to helping everyone access the mental health care they need, and offers equity pricing options for her clients.
